My blog is only getting 100 hits a day - How to improve?

Maybe I only get 100 hits a day because my blog sucks? Maybe I haven't promoted it properly? Maybe I need some help to promote my blog? Anybody here willing to help by reviewing my site and providing feedback?

I welcome all comments and critisism on my blog - http://www.projectsteps.com.

Thanks,

Stephen Seay

Hi Stephen, you need to view your blog like a product you want to sell. I can tell that you're pretty passionate about your area of expertise. The problem is noise, there are over 100 million blogs of which at least 20 million are active (have regular blog posts). So no matter how good your product is, no-one will buy it if they don't know about it. That's exactly why we started TheGoodBlogs so that bloggers can help other bloggers get known. We can't guarantee that readers will return to your blog, that's up to you and your content but we can help you get seen.

Probably less than 2% of blogs get any traffic that is significant (ie. 1000s of views per day). 95% or more typically have 1000 or less views per day and in fact the majority have less than 200-300. To promote your blog is a combination of activities. Here are some suggestions.

  • Using a service like TheGoodBlogs ensures that your blog is seen by thousands of readers who may not know you exist.
  • Add keywords regularly (including TheGoodblogs conversation tags)
  • The more posts you have, the more likely people can find you through search engines. The most popular blogs in general have been around for 2- 3 years with a couple of thousand of posts.
  • Find your audience and network. By reading and commenting on other blogs that are similar to yours, you are introducing yourself to other bloggers who may find your content equally compelling. They in turn may talk about your posts.
  • Building up your network and getting other bloggers to comment on your blog means links to your blog, important for search engines like Google and Technorati.
  • Participate in Carnivals or host your own.
  • Use TheGoodBlogs conversation feature to start conversations and invite others to join.

I often feel to focus solely on raw traffic is wrong because as quickly as they come, they will leave because they are not your loyal readers or patrons. If you build a good community of bloggers and readers around your blog, they in turn will introduce other readers who will find your content interesting.

Having a 100 hits a day is not shabby at all. It's a great start.

Here's a link about how to keep your the readers that find your blog.
