Why do I have so few clicks?

I just looked at my stats, and I am shocked by how many people are viewing my blog in their widget, but how few click-backs I get:

08 May 2007 - Tue 1,738 0
07 May 2007 - Mon 1,548 1
06 May 2007 - Sun 1,052 1
05 May 2007 - Sat 1,135 0
04 May 2007 - Fri 1,851 1

That first column is how many people viewed it, the second is how many clicked through! I try to use good post titles with interesting keywords, what else should I be doing? Because holy cow, if I could really have that much traffic I would be in heaven!

I was wondering the same thing. I just never thought to ask! The explanation was helpful.

Believer in Balance

Hello,

Getting exposure is pretty tough generally. The numbers you're seeing are not unusual for over 60-70% of the blogosphere. Your blog entry does appear on the widget over 1,000 times a day. However, the problem is most blogs are so busy with blogrolls, widgets, links etc. Take for example a typical blog gets 200 views a day. On average, 5% or less will click on a link in the post, another 5% or less will click on 'other' links on the page. That's 10 clicks, however when you have 30-40 other links like blogrolls, ads, recent posts, etc, the number gets pretty small, you can soon see that any one link would have about .1 % or less chance of being clicked on. It's very much a volume game, so the more people we have in the network, the more you'll get circulated and that will help drive up the numbers.

Over time we hope that many people will get to know TheGoodBlogs widget as a great discovery tool rather than just another widget!

Other things we do include, creating tag clouds with links to your stories, conversations, member directories etc, all of which will help drive your ranking up so that search engines are more likely to list you higher up than others.
