Yes, you can create a great DVD from your storybook even if it has not been printed yet.
My wife has a story she has told to children for years. We created the storybook but never had it published. Recently we decided to create a DVD with the art work I created and music and voice.

You can do the same thing. But note that we are using a MAC. If you are on the PC consider using Sound Forge, Pro Tools and other software that will allow you to create a DVD, edit it and create music and audio.
The mike we finally used is excellent for both platforms.
